By the Lake at Castle Rock
Sitting by the lake next to Castle Rock in Central Park right now, doing work. And it actually feels good.
The lake is beautiful — I'm right at the edge among the stones, watching ducks swim across in front of me, the castle in the far view, the Great Lawn behind me. The wind is soft and the birds are chiming and there's something about it that makes me feel like I've been transported back in time. Like I'm inside the ice age world I'm building, in some quiet way.
The screen glare is definitely a thing, and I'm squinting through some pretty serious reflections. But overall things feel serene, and I like it quite a lot.
I tried to go to the MET earlier, but the ticket price — even acting as a student — was a bit too much at $17. So I dropped the idea of going in and working from the café there, which I had briefly imagined would feel very fancy. Oh well.
I'm content just sitting here instead. I still have a lot of work to do, and I still need a while more to finish what I'm building. But the lake is right there, the ducks keep crossing, and the castle is just sitting in the distance like it's always been there.
What a day.
