Mariam

We met a new friend today while going swimming. Just as we sat down in the spa, a woman around Jordan's parents' age sat in too, and we started chatting. Her name is Mariam. She's only been living in the apartment complex for about two weeks — she's here all the way from NYC because her daughter is going through a serious treatment at Stanford Medical, so she's here to keep her company and take care of her. It's really sad, what they're going through.

It was good conversation overall, though. Jordan clocked that she's Jewish from the very beginning; I only got it after the first few exchanges. He's since invited her to join him at the Shabbat event on Fridays at a community center near here. He's very kind. I think I'm invited too!

She's a radiologist, has been working remotely since Covid, and had some interesting thoughts on AI and politics and everything. It was good getting to know her. We were glad we went to the pool and the spa today.
