We Came Early
Jordan decided this morning that we were leaving for Reno today. Spontaneous, but the reasoning made sense — his dental appointment is next week, and there's supposed to be bad weather over the weekend, so better to go now while the roads are clear. I got in a focusmate session and some app work before we packed up and left around noon or one.
The drive was longer than usual — traffic made it closer to five hours. But leaving during the day means actual views, actual light, which made it easier. It looked like a real road trip instead of just a dark corridor.
Jordan was on the phone for basically the whole drive. Both when I was driving and when he was, which is very him.
He caught up with an old colleague and heard all the drama about his old boss — apparently things unfolded in a way that left Jordan feeling completely vindicated, which he deserved. He talked to another contact from a previous position. He called Larry — a friend he met on Discord years ago, someone he helped get a software job at the time, and now he's helping Larry transition out of a low-pay situation. And he called his sister Katie.
Katie was the one who checked the calendar. April 1st, she said. That's a Wednesday. Not Monday like Jordan had been thinking.
So technically we came early.
We laughed about it. I mean — what else do you do.
Costco stop. Jordan asked me to grab a seat at the food court while he handled something, so I did. He apparently couldn't find me, walked around, eventually went outside — while I was sitting right there the whole time, in a totally findable seat. I sent him a photo of where I was sitting, me looking mildly exasperated, slightly pouty.
He took that photo and asked Gemini to put me in a dinosaur suit.
Which, okay — I do call him my little dinosaur, the theme runs deep — and now there's a "dino Tim" image that he's been sending to everyone he knows. Multiple people. I've seen the replies. It's become a thing.
